Devon Struggles to Regain His Memory
At the hospital, Lily shared her concerns with Cane about Hilary being in control of Devon while he convalesced at home. Lily said that Hilary could spin the truth once Devon regained his memory. Cane reminded Lily that while Devon remained in a fragile state, no one should rush to disclose the truth about the accident. Lily said Devon's future would be increasingly threatened while Hilary was in charge. Cane suggested they stop by to visit Devon and lend their support. Lily feared she would not be able to maintain control of her emotions, so Cane agreed to visit Devon without Lily.
At the Genoa City Athletic Club, Jill commiserated with Jack after reporters hounded him outside the entrance. Jack explained that reporters believed Devon had been drinking at the benefit before the accident occurred. Jill asked if alcohol had caused Devon's car accident. Jack replied, "No! The blood work showed he was not intoxicated." Jack cried that false accusations were undermining the foundation's good work.
Jill continued questioning Jack and said, "The trouble is, we know who's to blame, don't we? It's your little friend." Jack scoffed and explained that Hilary wasn't solely to blame. Jack said Devon could've made a number of choices less destructive than driving 100 miles per hour on a country road. Jill asked why Jack was defending Hilary for doing vicious things to numerous victims, including Mariah.
Jack recalled Jill's past and insisted that she and Hilary had more in common than Jill would acknowledge. Jill insisted that Devon should've left Hilary a long time before. Jack replied, "Some people will put up with anything in the name of love." Jack suggested that Jill should show Hilary the same compassion others had shown to Jill in the past. Jill, seething, said she wouldn't forgive Hilary for all the hurt she'd caused.
After Jack left, Jill approached Lily and asked why Hilary was so adept at fooling even the smartest men in town. Lily replied, "For once, I'm finally over talking about that woman." Lily added that she was certain Devon was sick of her constantly bashing Hilary. Jill asked Lily if she'd given up on helping Devon see the light. Lily noted that Devon was a grown man who could figure things out on his own. Jill seemed even more frustrated by Lily's response.
At Devon and Hilary's penthouse, Devon gingerly moved his sore body to make himself comfortable on the sofa. Hilary noticed that Devon seemed distressed, and she asked him to tell her what was disturbing him. Devon said he was experiencing flashes of jumbled memories. Hilary, recalling Ben's advice, instructed Devon to stay calm, relax, and not push himself to remember what had happened. Devon said he could remember driving 140 miles per hour. Hilary said there was no way to know for sure how fast he'd been driving. Devon couldn't seem to shake his haunting memories.
Devon said that though he had blank spots in his memory, he was aware of being alone. Devon asked Hilary why she hadn't accompanied him. Hilary claimed she'd been working. Devon said he couldn't understand why he hadn't waited for Hilary, so they could be together at midnight. Hilary said, "We rang in the New Year with a big kiss." Devon remained confused and said none of what had happened made sense to him. Hilary seemed uneasy as Devon continued to question her.
Devon seemed comforted by the memory of Hilary being present at the hospital when he'd regained consciousness. Hilary said, "Whatever happened on New Year's, it doesn't matter anymore." Devon replied, "It matters to me." Hilary suggested that Devon rest upstairs in bed. Devon told Hilary that she didn't have to stay with him and should handle matters at work. Cane arrived to check on Devon. Hilary claimed Devon was asleep, but Devon called out to Cane. Cane agreed to stay with Devon until a nurse arrived.
After Hilary left, Devon told Cane that brief flashes of the car accident had resurfaced. Devon asked how an entire traumatic experience could have been erased from his mind. Cane comforted Devon and told him not to cause himself undue stress by forcing himself to remember. Devon said that Hilary had filled in some blanks. Cane asked Devon to elaborate.
Devon explained that he'd been alone because he'd been eager to test out his new car. Devon added that Hilary had told him that they'd shared a kiss at midnight. Cane replied, "Hilary told you that, huh?" Devon pleaded with Cane to share what he knew. Cane said he didn't know anything more, and he advised Devon to focus on being thankful he'd survived what could've been a fatal accident.
At GC Buzz, Hilary told her assistant that Devon had wrecked his car after sliding on a patch of black ice. Roz said some had suggested that Devon might have been driving while impaired. Hilary replied, "Are you asking me if Devon was drunk?" Hilary noted that Devon's blood alcohol had been well below the legal limit. Hilary refused to respond to additional questions and said she'd only stopped by to sign paychecks. Hilary crossly noted that she needed to return home to check on Devon.
After Roz walked away, Jack approached Hilary. Jack said he was surprised to hear that Devon was already home from the hospital. Jack told Hilary that he'd heard about Devon's memory loss. Hilary explained that she hadn't told Devon any details about the night of the accident. Jack noted that it was difficult to keep secrets, and Devon might find it difficult to hear the truth from anyone other than Hilary. Jack added, "If it were me, that's not the way I'd want the person I love to find out."
Hilary said she feared Devon might not forgive her for what she'd done to Mariah. Hilary added that Devon seemed to have finally given up on their marriage the night of the accident. Jack assured Hilary that Devon would get past it. Hilary replied, "You didn't get past it with Phyllis." Jack insisted that it wasn't the same kind of betrayal. Jack said that Hilary should tell Devon the truth as soon as possible because it might be her only shot at saving her marriage.
After Cane left Devon's, Hilary returned. Devon recalled a memory of his marriage proposal to Hilary. Hilary ventured downstairs after visiting with the nurse and asked Devon about Cane's visit. Devon said Cane had reminded him how lucky he was to be alive. Hilary agreed that Devon's recovery was what they should focus on and be grateful for. Hilary thanked Devon for suggesting she stop by the studio because it had given her time to think.
Hilary became apprehensive and told Devon that she'd been preoccupied with protecting him. Devon asked Hilary what was wrong. Hilary said she was ready to fill in all the blanks Devon hadn't been able to recall. Devon said the only thing that was important was making the most of their future together. Hilary persisted and attempted to tell Devon the truth. Devon interrupted and berated himself for having wasted money and time. Devon announced that he would make immediate changes.
At Brash & Sassy's headquarters, Victoria and Billy discussed a big-budget advertising campaign for the company's first men's cologne. Billy assured Victoria that their advertising blitz would draw attention, thanks to a famous model and a notable photographer. Victoria said she hoped sales might soar past their competitors and set records for Valentine's Day. Reed interrupted when he stopped by to pick up his phone. Victoria overheard when Reed quietly thanked Billy "for that other thing." Victoria replied, "What other thing?"
Billy and Reed both claimed that Billy had merely helped Reed create a bibliography for his school essay. Victoria insisted that she should be called on to help Reed because she was his parent. After Reed left, Victoria confronted Billy and said, "What is so top secret that Reed can only tell you?" Billy assured Victoria that Reed had wanted to discuss "guy stuff." Billy said Victoria was a wonderful parent, and he suggested that Victoria allow Reed to discuss certain issues with an adult he trusted. Victoria reluctantly agreed.
As the time neared for the photography session, Billy and Victoria learned that their model was unavailable. Jill phoned, learned the news, and suggested a substitute model. Jill later showed up with Lily. Lily seemed apprehensive, but Victoria and Billy assured Lily that she'd been one of Jabot's best models. Lily went to get dressed for the photo shoot.
Lily, wearing a red gown with a plunging neckline, seemed nervous. Billy put Lily at ease and instructed her to flirt and pretend she was enticing timid men to approach her. Lily posed provocatively as the photographer captured one image after another. Cane entered the studio and watched. Lily continued posing while Cane stood nearby.
After the photo shoot, Billy and Jill told Cane that Lily had stepped up as a substitute model when the one they'd booked hadn't been able to make it. Cane kissed Lily and told her she was gorgeous. Billy and Jill talked privately in the office. Billy thanked Jill for enlisting Lily. Billy said that the campaign might prove to be a huge success. Jill suggested they not jump ahead and plan a whole campaign because Cane hadn't seemed too thrilled when he'd walked in during the photo shoot. Billy replied, "Yeah. It's not really up to Cane, is it?"
At Victoria's house, Reed became bored with his homework. He opened a laptop and logged into a site to view pornography. When a payment window popped up, Reed rummaged through a drawer and found Victoria's credit card. Reed entered Victoria's credit card information. Reed perused the site until the sitter returned with Johnny and Katie.
Reed quickly closed the lid on the laptop. Johnny said, "What are you doing?" Reed claimed he'd been watching his friend's video. Reed left Victoria's credit card on the desk and went upstairs. After Victoria returned home, Reed ventured downstairs. Victoria found her credit card on the desk and asked Reed about it. Reed said he didn't know why the credit card was on the desk, and he suggested that Johnny and Katie were to blame.
At Top of the Tower, Nikki admired an elaborately set table and commented that it might be Victor's biggest project yet. Victor remarked that it hadn't been easy to round everyone up on such short notice, and Nikki said it was too bad Abby couldn't make it. Nikki hoped Victoria picked up the voicemail she'd left, and Faith chirped that no one used voicemail anymore. Nick entered with Christian and Noah, and Faith pointed out that they were the only ones to show up on time. Nick claimed that he'd run the whole way just to see Faith.
Over the phone, Nikki told Victoria that it would mean a lot to Victor if Victoria could be there, and Victoria anticipated that by some miracle, she'd make it. An exasperated Victoria explained that she'd been at a standoff with the kids over disallowing junk food for dinner, but they'd been ganging up on her. Victoria was grateful for the chance to get her children to eat something nutritious without her looking like the bad guy. The sound of Reed's guitar blared through the house, and Victoria yelled for him to turn it down. Nikki offered to hold dinner until Victoria got there, and Victoria called it the best idea her father had ever had.
Victoria called out that everyone was waiting for them, and she spotted her credit card on the desk and put it in a drawer. Reed reported that he'd gotten Johnny cleaned up, but the boy was still upstairs because he'd wanted to put on his own shoes. Victoria observed that Reed's attire was casual for Top of the Tower, but he said he wasn't going so he could stay home and practice his guitar. She sternly stated that he'd played it enough for one day, and he griped that he deserved a reward for helping out with his younger brother. Victoria huffed that helping his sibling had hardly been going above and beyond, and Reed hesitantly agreed to go. He looked less than thrilled when she instructed him to put on a nice shirt and sport coat.
Meanwhile, Nick wondered what the occasion was, but Victor proclaimed that he didn't need a reason to have a party. Nikki mentioned that she'd hired a sitter to look out for the little ones, including Johnny, Katie, and Connor. Nick asked if Chelsea would be there, and Victor replied that he thought she would be, since she was part of the family. Nick was glad because he knew Victor wanted to stay close to Adam's son. Victor knowingly patted Christian on the head.
Faith explained the rules of chess, and Nick suggested that fantasy football was also cool, but she opted to learn tips from the grandmasters instead. Nick warned that Victor was creating a monster, and he anticipated that Victor would enter Faith in competitions when she was good enough. Victor stressed that they needed to nurture her talent, but Nick asserted that having fun was the most important thing at her age. Victor declared that Faith had a gift, and he pointedly hoped that she'd reach her full potential instead of becoming a bartender. Nick greeted Chelsea and noted that she looked great, and she returned the compliment.
Nick said he was glad Connor was there to hang out with his cousin, and he hoped Connor and Christian grew up to be best friends. Chelsea replied that she would like that, and Nick contemplated what the night was all about, since he was sure it was more than dinner. Chelsea had no idea, and she offered to leave if her being there made Nick uncomfortable, but he encouraged her to stick around. Nikki approached and inquired whether Chelsea's dress was part of her line, and Chelsea explained that she'd designed it for herself. Nick called the dress a winner.
Victor implored Noah to work at Top of the Tower instead of a dingy bar if he was interested in the restaurant business, but Noah maintained that he was happy where he was. Victor lectured that he'd hoped his children and grandchildren would join him in his business ventures, and Noah inquired whether Victor had summoned them to announce that he was taking the company public again. Victor said they'd soon find out.
Victoria arrived with her kids, and Reed griped about his mother giving him a hard time. Nick implied that she'd back off if Reed showed her some respect. Victor shook Reed's hand and offered Victoria a glass of wine. She said she could use one after the day she'd had, and Reed eyed the liquor bottles at the bar. Victoria remarked to Nick that raising a teenage son was harder than running a company, but Nick assured her that it would get easier after it got worse first. Victoria complained that Reed had turned to Billy for advice, and she requested that Nick be there if Reed had questions.
Chelsea asked what chess players wore, and Faith wanted to wear a party dress if she ever became good enough to enter a tournament. Victor offered to hire Chelsea to make Faith a beautiful dress if Faith ever went to such an event. He encouraged Faith not to worry about the competition but to have a good time and learn.
Nikki informed Reed that the Genoa City High School orchestra had taken first place, and she urged him to think about joining. Reed argued that orchestras didn't have electric guitars, and Nikki suggested that he learn to play the cello. Reed was pleased that she recognized his interest in music, and Nikki pointed out that the ranch was big enough for him to practice his guitar without disturbing anyone. He planned to take her up on it, and they hugged. Reed approached the bar and covertly poured some alcohol into his drink.
Noah joined Reed, who inquired about Noah's favorite teachers in high school. Noah asked what Reed was really into, and Reed mentioned that he practiced playing his guitar every day. Noah recalled that he'd once played, and he offered to get Reed on stage at the Underground's open mic night. Reed didn't think he was good enough yet, but he thought he would be soon. Noah looked forward to saying that they were related when Reed made it big.
Victor told Chelsea that she'd always be invited to Newman functions, and he'd be disappointed if she didn't show up. He added that he missed Adam a lot and thought about his son every day, but it gave him comfort to see that Adam lived on in both Connor and Christian. Victor hoped the boys would be as close as two brothers should be, and Chelsea wished the same thing.
Victor asked everyone to join him in a toast, and the guests took their seats at the table. Victor acknowledged that his family thought he'd asked them there to listen to a big announcement with life-altering news, and family members jokingly made guesses about what it was. Victor proclaimed that he wanted them to realize that family was the most important asset, and it warmed his heart that they'd all been getting along better than they had in many years. He added that his family was more powerful and valuable than trust funds or the company, and he toasted to the Newmans.
After dinner, Victoria prepared to leave because she had an early meeting, and she rounded up Reed to go home and finish his homework. Chelsea realized that she hadn't gotten a chance to speak to Noah, and Nick mentioned that Noah had gone to check on Sharon. Chelsea figured that she should head out, too, but Nick referred to the expensive bottle of wine he'd just opened, and he thought it would be a shame to let it go to waste. He asked her to stay longer, and she couldn't say no to good wine.
Nick told Chelsea a story about trying to join a mommy group, and Chelsea suggested that he start his own "daddies and diapers" group. They laughed, and he said he missed hanging out with her and not stressing about the elephant in the room. Nick recognized that things had been awkward between them after what had almost happened on New Year's Eve, and he'd tried his best to act normal, but he didn't think he'd pulled it off. She suggested that they get everything out in the open one last time, and he toasted to them staying friends no matter what.
Nikki told Victor that she was worried Reed would rebel because Victoria was being strict with him. Victor recalled that he'd been strict with their children, and it had made them strong. Nikki said it had worked because the kids had known he loved them, but Victor noted that Nick and Noah were friends in a way that Victor and Nick had never been. Nikki argued that Nick's daughter had opted to live with them, and Victor thought there had to be a happy medium somewhere.
At home, Victoria regretted letting Johnny have sugar, and she noticed that Reed seemed preoccupied. She threatened to auction off Reed's guitar for charity, and Reed protested, but she informed him that she was just seeing if he was listening. Reed recounted his conversation with Noah that night, and Victoria thought Reed could learn a lot from Noah. She implied that Nick could be a big help if Reed had "guy questions," and Reed considered it cool that Nick owned a nightclub.
Reed mentioned open mic night, but Victoria didn't think it was a good idea for Reed to participate. Reed argued that he just wanted to play his guitar and that Nick wouldn't let him drink, but Victoria declared that it wasn't going to happen and ended the discussion. Reed griped that she'd have to listen if they actually discussed it, and she ordered him to turn off the television and phone because she had to work. She went upstairs, and he ran outside and threw up.
At the police station, Kevin reported over the phone that he still hadn't received any communication from Dylan. He hung up and placed a burner phone in Paul's desk drawer as Sharon burst in. Kevin informed her that he had no news, and he reminded her that he couldn't say anything even if he knew something. Sharon confirmed that she was aware that she couldn't have contact with her husband, but she pleaded for Kevin to give her proof that Dylan was okay. Kevin claimed that even if he was willing to jeopardize the operation, he had no way of getting in touch with Dylan.
Sharon appealed to Kevin to put himself in her shoes by considering how he'd feel if Chloe were in Dylan's position. Kevin urged Sharon to focus on the rest of her family, but she lamented that Mariah and Noah were busy and that Faith had moved out, so all she had left was Dylan. Kevin got a text message about a crashing server, and he noted that civilians weren't allowed to be in Paul's office alone. Sharon insisted that she needed a minute to get herself together, and Kevin told her to make it quick as he stepped out. Sharon searched through the files on Paul's desk, and she found the burner phone in his desk drawer. She discovered that an unknown party was the only contact in the phone's history.
In Miami, an intimidating thug entered Dylan's car, and Dylan barked for him to get in the back seat, since the front was reserved for Fisk. Dylan added that he was there to talk to the boss, and he didn't like to be kept waiting. The henchman handed Dylan a slip of paper with instructions to drive several miles from there. Dylan questioned why he'd go anywhere with the guy, who smirked and showed him a gun.
The thug accompanied Dylan to a motel room, where Alex was waiting. She told Stan, the henchman, that she'd take it from there, and he stepped outside. Dylan complained that she'd had him running in circles, and he questioned whether or not the meeting would happen. Alex asked if he'd considered the possibility that Fisk was standing right in front of him, but she chortled and taunted that "Derek" would be a terrible poker player. Dylan bet she always won, since she was great at playing games.
Alex confirmed that she wasn't Fisk, and Dylan testily wondered how many more stops there would be on the scavenger hunt. She indicated that Fisk had had a last-minute engagement, but she promised the men would meet. Dylan barked to call him when Fisk was ready, and he opened the door to leave, but a grinning Stan blocked the way. Dylan realized that Alex still wasn't convinced that he should meet with her boss, and he guessed that she didn't trust men because an ex had cheated on her. Alex snarled that if a man had cheated on her, he wouldn't have lived long enough to regret it.
Dylan handed over his phone and his wallet and invited Alex to search him again, and she revealed that she and her boss had already done everything possible to vet him. She confirmed that "Derek's" name and record had checked out, but she found it suspicious that no one they'd talked to had been able to describe him. Dylan claimed that he was discreet, just like her boss. His phone rang, and she bet whoever was calling could answer her questions. He suggested that she tell his boss that he was about to meet with Fisk, and Alex picked up the call. "Hello?" Sharon nervously said.
Alex asked who was calling and what they wanted, but Sharon quickly said it was a wrong number and hung up. Alex sensed that the caller had expected to hear Dylan's voice and had covered, but Dylan insisted that only his boss had the number. Alex revealed that there had been a woman on the line, and since he'd said he worked for a man, she knew he was lying. Alex summoned Stan back in and ominously stated that Stan's fists were accurate lie detectors. Dylan contended that using muscle wasn't necessary, and he offered to tell the truth while Stan waited outside.
Alex ushered Stan out and gave Dylan 60 seconds to tell her everything about the woman who'd called. Dylan admitted that he'd lied to Alex just like she'd lied to him, and he claimed that "Amanda" was his boss's right hand. Alex huffed that she should be talking to Amanda instead of him, but he grabbed Alex and refused to let her wreck the deal because she was jealous. Alex asserted that she wasn't a teen with a crush, and Dylan said he could see that she was a grown woman. She ordered him to treat her like one by proving that Amanda meant nothing to him, and he pulled Alex into a passionate kiss.
Dylan asked if that was proof enough, but Alex said no. He struggled to hide his panic as she tore off his shirt. Dylan and Alex undressed and fell onto the bed, and she told him not to stop. She purred that she wanted and needed him, and he envisioned that she was Sharon, asking him to make love to her. They continued kissing.
Sharon stashed the phone back in the drawer and appeared to be looking for something on the floor when Kevin reentered the office. She fibbed that she'd lost her keys, and she requested that he help her look for them. When he turned away, she removed her keys from her purse and hid them under some paperwork. Kevin found the keys, and he promised that if he heard from Dylan, he'd tell Dylan that she was worried about him. Sharon was concerned that it would just be more pressure, and Kevin offered to tell Dylan how much she loved him. She called Kevin a good friend, and she hurried out.
Sharon returned home, and she perked up when the doorbell rang. She was disappointed when she found Noah there, and she admitted that she'd been expecting someone else. Noah surmised she meant Dylan, but he pointed out that it would have been odd for Dylan to ring the doorbell to his own house. Sharon asked Noah to distract her by talking about what was going on with him, and he relayed that he'd just been at a Newman family dinner. Sharon guessed that her invitation had been lost in the mail, but Noah insisted that Faith missed her.
Sharon remarked that she couldn't have made it anyway because she'd had something to do, and Noah sensed that she was upset about something. He gently pressed her to talk to him, and she confided that Dylan was working undercover, so she had no idea what her husband was doing or where he was. Noah realized that she was on edge because the assignment was probably dangerous, and she revealed that she'd tried to contact Dylan even though it had been against the rules, but she feared it had been a mistake. Sharon pledged to trust that Dylan was safe and that he would do everything he could to return home.
Later, Sharon shut off the lights and took out Dylan's wedding ring. She placed it on her finger over her own wedding band. Meanwhile, after having sex with Dylan, Alex gushed that she'd learned everything she needed to know about "Derek." She indicated that Fisk had expressed a strong desire to meet him, and Dylan asked if the meeting was finally on. She announced that he would meet her boss the next day, but she was the only one he needed to please that night. They began kissing again.
At the police station, Paul and Kevin discussed their concern for Dylan. Kevin confirmed that he hadn't heard from Dylan. Kevin couldn't imagine what Paul and Sharon were going through. Paul hoped Sharon hadn't been trying to get information. She knew the meaning of deep cover. Kevin suggested that Paul review the meaning of deep cover with Sharon. Kevin advised Paul that Sharon had been there the previous evening and had asked the same questions. Kevin confirmed that he hadn't provided Sharon with any information because he wouldn't risk the case -- or Dylan's safety.
In Miami, Alex told "Derek" his performance the night before had been impressive. Derek promised he'd impress her again after he met with Fisk. Alex asked him to give her a couple of hours to initiate the next phase. She promised Derek wouldn't be sorry. They kissed, and after she left, he slammed the door. He was agitated. He was overwhelmed with guilt in the aftermath of the previous evening with Alex.
At the police station, Paul received a call from Dylan. He assured Paul that he was fine, and the operation was still a go. Dylan admitted he'd hit a few curves in the road, but he'd ridden through them. Dylan said he was waiting to see Fisk. Paul told Dylan how much he appreciated what Dylan was doing. Dylan said it was his job. Paul reminded him it was just a job and warned him not to endanger himself. Paul said that Dylan sounded like a different person. Dylan admitted he was --- he had to be. He was dealing with people who were pieces of garbage, and he had to be like them. Dylan felt everything would be over later that evening because he would have enough evidence against Fisk.
Dylan told Paul that Christine had called him the night before, but Alex had picked up the call. Dylan asked about Sharon. Paul assured Dylan that Sharon was fine. Dylan asked Paul to tell Sharon that he loved her. Paul assured Dylan that Sharon loved and trusted Dylan and couldn't wait for Dylan to return home. Paul also assured Dylan that if he felt overwhelmed at any point, he could bail. Dylan said that it had to go down and disconnected the call.
Paul told Kevin that Christine had called Dylan the night before and wondered why Kevin hadn't told him. Kevin looked confused. A while later, Paul spoke with Christine, and she said that she hadn't called Dylan. Kevin confessed that he'd left Sharon alone in Paul's office the night before when he'd had to go to the server room. They wondered if Sharon had managed to get hold of the burner phone. Kevin checked it and confirmed that a call had been made on that phone the previous evening. Paul exploded and told Kevin that Kevin and Sharon might have blown Dylan's cover and put his life in danger.
At Jabot, Ashley entered Ravi's office, but he wasn't there. She was impressed with how he'd cleaned it up. Ashley spotted a sticky note attached to Ravi's computer screen, "Lunch with Phyllis TOTT." Ashley became extremely annoyed.
At Top of the Tower, Phyllis told Ravi that he was an artist and asked him to look over Fenmore's virtual data. Ravi returned the compliment and said that what Phyllis had done was cutting edge, and he was impressed. Phyllis admitted that she didn't have the technical knowledge to get the e-stores up and running, and she needed his help. He said he had a job at Jabot and had no intention of leaving. He said that Ashley needed him. Phyllis asked Ravi if Ashley had had him sign an exclusivity contract. He said no. Phyllis advised him that had he signed one, it would have required bumping up his pay.
Ravi told Phyllis that Jack and Ashley had been good to him. Phyllis said that was because Ravi was very good at what he did. Phyllis said that she had no objection to Ravi maintaining his schedule at Jabot and working as a consultant for Fenmore's in his time off. Ravi asked when he would be able to sleep, and Phyllis assured him he could sleep anytime. She told Ravi that Fenmore's could offer him top-notch office space with an ergonomic office chair that flattened into a bed. Phyllis said it sounded like they had a deal. Ravi said Phyllis was hearing things differently than he was because he definitely hadn't heard himself take the deal. Ravi asked if they were in one of those restaurants that spun. Phyllis said no, but if they struck a deal, she'd take him to one.
As Phyllis handed Ravi her business card, Ashley grabbed it and noted that Phyllis' title was Senior Executive Marketing Consultant. Ashley said it was a shame there wasn't enough room left for VP of poaching. Phyllis said she and Ravi were only having lunch to get Ravi out of the Jabot sweatshop. Ashley asked Phyllis if she was going to trash the one company that had given her a job when no one else would. Ashley declared the recruitment session was over. Phyllis asked if that was because Ashley said so and asked if Ashley considered Ravi as Jabot's property. Phyllis wanted to know if Ravi couldn't speak up about his own career.
Phyllis asked Ashley to admit she hadn't offered Ravi a contract. Phyllis pointed out that Jabot was paying Ravi at a lousy rate, and his office space was a joke. Phyllis accused Ashley of having Ravi fix everything that was wrong with her precious app. Ashley pointed out that only a few weeks before, Phyllis had walked away from a job she had pretended to love so that the man Phyllis claimed to love could move on with his life. Ashley called it uncharacteristically selfless of Phyllis.
Phyllis told Ashley to leave Jack out of it, but Ashley refused and advised Phyllis that Jack hadn't fallen for it. Ashley and Jack knew Phyllis had left so she could support a friend who was in a weak position by claiming to help save her company from going under. Ravi sat and cringed as Phyllis and Ashley's confrontation heated up.
Phyllis told Ravi that that was the point that Ashley ran to share everything with Jack because Ashley was obsessed with running Jack's life, which was easier than getting a life of her own. Ashley countered that Phyllis was consumed with jealousy because she wasn't capable of having a real relationship with anybody. Ashley said Phyllis poisoned every single relationship. Ashley told Ravi it was his life, and she was leaving him to it. Ashley left. Ravi said he needed to leave. Phyllis said Ravi knew where to find her. Ravi guzzled the rest of his wine and left.
In the Athletic Club dining room, Gloria greeted Lauren and Michael and told them she'd been doing yoga since Michael had evicted her from his home. She hoped they were enjoying a new spiritual balance since Lauren had finally told Michael the truth about Fenmore's. Michael told Gloria that Fenmore's was none of her business. After stating that she was guilty of caring too much about the way her sons were treated, Gloria left.
Lauren told Michael that Gloria was right. Lauren had kept the truth from Michael. Michael told Lauren to stop and that he was over it. He said they were in it together. Michael told Lauren that they would be meeting his friend Craig shortly. Lauren was flabbergasted and asked if that was how they worked together. Michael said that shortly, they might be referring to Craig as the magical man who would help them get Fenmore's out of trouble. Lauren didn't appear happy.
Craig arrived and agreed to be a true silent partner. He agreed to allow Lauren to have complete autonomy. He admitted he didn't know anything about fashion and didn't like shopping. She was ready to make a deal on the spot. Craig said he would put her in touch with his guy at his bank, and he'd get his team on it. Lauren and Michael thanked him, and they went to the bar. Lauren apologized to Michael then thanked him.
Later, at the Athletic Club, Gloria saw Craig and tried to sneak out, hoping he wouldn't see her, but Craig spotted her and called her over to his table. Craig told her he'd had a great chat with Michael and Lauren and that he'd be seeing more of everyone because he was considering investing in Fenmore's. Michael saw Gloria talking to Craig and asked what she was doing. Gloria admitted that she and Craig were exchanging telephone numbers. Craig told Gloria that he'd be in touch and left. Michael took Gloria's phone and pointed out that Gloria had never liked Craig, and he deleted Craig's number to make sure she didn't jeopardize Lauren's deal.
Lauren met Phyllis at Top of the Tower, and Phyllis said that Lauren would love Ravi. Phyllis said Ravi had smarts off the chart, was fluent in all of the emerging app technologies, and was cutting edge. She further stated that Ravi was sweet and humble, but he wasn't very good with alcohol or women. Phyllis said that just as Ravi had been about to agree to be their technical consultant, Ashley had blazed in on a full freak out. Phyllis had been mortified for Ravi. Ashley had practically dragged Ravi out by his ear. Phyllis said that Ashley was angry with Phyllis. Phyllis knew Ashley despised her because of Jack, Billy, Victor, and probably twenty other reasons.
Lauren thanked Phyllis for trying to enlist Ravi into Fenmore's tiny army. Phyllis said she loved being part of that army, and they would fight to the end. Lauren said they might not have to fight and told Phyllis about Craig. Phyllis asked if Lauren had made the deal. Phyllis thought miracles were suspicious, but Lauren admitted that they had no other option. Phyllis advised Lauren to make the deal.
At the penthouse, Hilary walked downstairs and found Devon sitting in the living room. He said everything had become clear to him when he'd woken up. He knew who he was, who Hilary was, and who they were together. Hilary was afraid Devon would grow anxious and advised him to relax. Devon confirmed he was relaxed, and he'd made a decision. It involved her, and they would do it together, but she'd have to do most of the heavy lifting.
Devon couldn't believe it had taken an accident for him to see things clearer, and he wanted each day to count -- and not in an abstract way. Every blessing he'd received had to be magnified. Hilary said she was behind him all the way to help him pay it forward. Devon told Hilary it was time they had a baby. Hillary looked stunned.
Later, Stitch stopped by the penthouse to check on Devon. Devon asked how soon he and Hilary could try to get pregnant. Stitch laughed and told Devon to keep the sex simple and added that the endorphins could speed up his healing. Stitch asked if Devon and Hilary had baby fever. Devon said that Hilary was more excited about a baby than he was.
At GC Buzz, Mariah was on the phone, taking a phony tip, when Hilary arrived. Mariah asked how Hilary and Devon were. Hilary said they were both fine, but she had something to say to Mariah. Mariah said she knew what Hilary had to say, and she decided to leave before Hilary fired her again with no references. Hilary said she wasn't going to fire Mariah but wanted to thank her for what she'd done. Mariah had been worried about Devon, yet she'd kept it together. Hilary was very impressed with how Mariah had gone on air and reported Devon's accident. It had been very professional, and what Mariah had said had been perfect.
Mariah was surprised that Hilary wasn't blaming her for Devon's accident. Hilary said that hadn't been fair on her part, and it had been a knee-jerk reaction to the things Hilary had done. Hilary said that neither one of them had made Devon crash the car. Mariah asked if Hilary and Devon had talked things out about the night of the accident. Hilary said they had, and they didn't need to mention it again.
Hilary assured Mariah that she and Devon had put things behind them. Hilary announced that they were about to start a family. Hilary wanted them to move forward -- if Mariah still wanted to work there. Hilary also told Mariah to stop calling it their show because it was Hilary's show, and she didn't want to confuse anyone. Hilary walked away.
Hilary was at her computer and thanked Mariah for putting together a list of the pitches for the new show and Mariah's first batch of ideas. Mariah was happy that Hilary liked them. Hilary said she hadn't said she liked them. Hilary liked the fonts and the layouts, but she wanted Mariah to put together thirty brand-new pitches that were fabulous, thrilling, and incredible. Hilary left for hair and makeup.
Mariah was frustrated when Devon arrived. Mariah was delighted to see him. Devon thanked Mariah for everything she'd done while he had been recovering. Mariah advised him that she and Hilary had talked, and they would move forward. Mariah told Devon there had been something bothering her, and she wanted to apologize for any part she might have played in what had happened on the night of Devon's accident. Devon looked puzzled.
At Jabot, Ashley entered Ravi's office with an empty box. She said it was obvious that Ravi was no longer happy at Jabot and told him to pack up his things. She said she'd help him pack to make sure he didn't steal any company secrets. Ravi advised Ashley that there had been a great misunderstanding. He had no intention of leaving Jabot.
Ravi asked Ashley to hear him out. Ashley yelled and asked what there was to hear. She accused him of meeting with a disgruntled ex-employee about doing the same job he was doing but at a different company. Ravi advised Ashley that he hadn't known Phyllis' agenda. Ashley said she felt betrayed.
Ravi assured Ashley that he wouldn't have agreed to have lunch with Phyllis if he'd thought it would affect his position at Jabot and Ashley's opinion of him. Ravi said that Ashley's opinion of him was the only thing that mattered more to him than his job. Ashley told him it had been a rough afternoon and suggested that Ravi unpack and take the afternoon off. They would work on Jabot Go the next day, and she felt it would be better for both of them. Ravi said he couldn't accept any time off until Ashley forgave him.
Dylan was in his motel room and looked into the mirror at his reflection. He remembered Paul's words that Sharon wanted Dylan home and that she loved and trusted him. He asked his reflection "who the hell" he was.
Alex returned, and she and "Derek" left to meet Fisk. They arrived at a warehouse. Alex opened a door, and Derek saw two men standing and another man on the floor, bound, gagged, and bleeding. Fisk greeted Derek and said he'd just been cleaning up some old business. Fisk was sure his arrangement with Derek would be more harmonious.
At GC Buzz, Devon stressed to Mariah that he didn't want to dwell on New Year's Eve and his car wreck, since he was moving on. Mariah blurted out that she'd been blaming herself for choosing a terrible time to get revenge on Hilary, and she mentioned the incident with the teleprompter. Devon was confused, and Mariah recognized that there were things he didn't remember, but she knew that Hilary had filled him in about what Mariah had done. Mariah apologized for tricking Hilary into making a public confession that she'd caused Mariah's fall on national television. Hilary spotted them talking, but an employee handed her the phone with an urgent call.
Devon insisted that he didn't blame Mariah for his accident, and he appealed to her to do him a favor by filling in the blank spots in his memory. Mariah recounted that Hilary had read the confession out loud, and everyone had been shocked. Mariah continued that Hilary had confronted her then Devon and Hilary had argued until he'd stormed out. Devon flashed back to moments from the night of the benefit. Mariah was relieved that he didn't blame her, but she worried based on the look on his face that she'd made everything worse.
Hilary approached and insisted on taking Devon home to rest, but he swore that he was more than fine and that Mariah had just been catching him up. Mariah urged him to take it easy for a few days, and Devon said he couldn't argue with both women. Mariah assured him that things were good between her and Hilary, and Hilary added that they were great. Devon pointedly thanked Mariah before Hilary led him out.
Devon and Hilary arrived home, and she wondered why he'd been quiet in the car. She asked if something had happened at his checkup, and he reported that Stitch had given him a clean bill of health. Devon added that he needed to take things slowly to get back to the way his life had been before the accident, and Hilary cooed that she couldn't think of a better way to celebrate than by trying to start their new family. Devon flatly stated that he remembered what had happened on New Year's Eve.
Hilary accused Mariah of filling Devon's head with lies, but Devon countered that everything Mariah had said corresponded with what he remembered. Devon realized that the truth had been right in front of his face the whole time, and he recounted leaving the benefit to get as far away from Hilary as possible. Devon barked that Hilary had intended to keep him in the dark about it, but she defended that Stitch had said it had been too soon to risk upsetting Devon. Devon dared Hilary to admit that she'd purposely humiliated Mariah out of jealousy.
Hilary recounted that Devon had told her repeatedly that the night of the accident wouldn't matter as long as they were together, and she reminded him that he'd been relieved that she hadn't been in the car with him. She knew his concern for her had been real, and she asked what had really changed. "Everything," he replied. Hilary begged Devon to talk to her or to yell at her, but she couldn't stand to watch him act like it was over between them. She swore that seeing him in a hospital bed had changed her, and she'd do whatever it took to heal them.
Hilary insisted that she wanted a life and a family with Devon, and she was adamant that they were worth the hard work. Devon spat that they'd never been worth it, since their relationship had been a mistake from day one, but Hilary insisted that they had a real love that was worth fighting for. Devon angrily questioned whether she had any idea how guilty he'd felt for putting her "through hell," and he realized that the real joke was on him.
Hilary contended that she and Devon could start over, and she figured that things for them had never been easy, but they could start fresh and focus on their future. Devon maintained that they had no future, since they were done, and she was toxic. Hilary pleaded that they'd told the whole world to "go to hell" when they'd fallen in love, but Devon clarified that he wasn't telling the world -- he was telling her. He ordered her to grab her things and get out of the house, since they were finished.
Jack greeted Ashley at Jabot, and he sensed that something was wrong. She blasted him for being determined to go after Fenmore's, since he'd provoked Phyllis into inflicting damage on their company. Ashley snapped that if Phyllis stole Ravi from them, it would be Jack's fault. Ashley ranted that Phyllis had played on Ravi's ego and innocence, but Ravi had had no idea that Phyllis had been trying to poach him. Ravi walked in and surmised that he was about to be fired, and he volunteered to hand in his identification badge. Jack suggested to a shocked Ravi that they talk over dinner, and the threesome headed out.
At the police station, Kevin informed Paul that Sharon had been determined to contact Dylan, but he hadn't given her any information, and he'd only been gone a few minutes. Kevin recalled that the burner phone had been in a drawer, and Paul was astounded that Sharon had gone through his desk. Kevin reported that the call had been under a minute long, but Paul thought Sharon still could have blown Dylan's cover. Paul didn't want Dylan to know that Sharon had been on the phone, since Dylan wouldn't be able to focus on the job if he thought Sharon couldn't cope. Kevin worried about how far Sharon was willing to go, but Paul vowed that there wouldn't be a next time.
Later, Michael entered the station and presented Kevin with tickets to a basketball game. Kevin guessed that Michael wanted Gloria to live with Kevin forever, and he handed the tickets back. Michael insisted they were to thank Kevin for opening his home to their mother, and Kevin figured that the tickets would get him out of the house for a night. Phyllis interrupted and pulled Michael aside, and he became nervous about why she'd tracked him down. He wondered if she needed him as a lawyer or a friend, and she replied that she definitely needed both.
After Phyllis told Michael about her altercation with Ashley, Michael confirmed that Phyllis hadn't done anything illegal or unethical because Ravi wasn't under contract with Jabot. Michael questioned when Ashley had ever caused Phyllis to second-guess herself, and Phyllis explained that she was concerned about Fenmore's being sued. Phyllis hoped that Craig decided to invest in the department store chain, and Michael expressed concern that Gloria would mess things up before the deal was final. Michael revealed that he'd caught his mother trying to weasel information out of Craig, but he thought Gloria hadn't been trying to get a job but a husband.
Ravi downed food at Top of the Tower, and he pointed out that he usually ate his meals at his desk. He nervously offered to go back to the office, but Jack insisted that he wanted Ravi to be happy at Jabot. Ravi gushed that there was nowhere he'd rather be, and Ashley pulled out a contract and suggested that they make it official. Jack stepped aside to take a call, and Gloria inquired whether he was free to talk. He asked how soon she could meet him at the restaurant, and she indicated that she was already at the elevator.
At the bar, Jack guessed that Craig didn't know the first thing about the retail business, and Gloria pointed out that Lauren didn't want someone telling her what to do. Jack worried that his plans were falling apart between Phyllis snaking his best employees and Lauren finding deep pockets. Jack remarked that if it were easy, it wouldn't be fun, and he predicted that Phyllis would lose Ravi and that Craig wouldn't invest in Fenmore's. Gloria said to leave the details to her, since she'd convinced Michael that she'd set her sights on Craig romantically.
Jack jokingly told Gloria not to marry Craig until she killed the deal with Fenmore's, and Gloria suspected that Craig had a full bank account but an empty life. Jack wondered how she'd find time for a job at Jabot if she was busy enjoying Craig's wealth, but Gloria warned Jack that she wouldn't forget their little deal. As Phyllis suspiciously looked on, Jack thanked Gloria for the information and said he would handle things from there.
Meanwhile, Ashley called Gloria "a black hole of chaos and destruction," and Ravi asked if Gloria was one of Jack's ex-wives. Ashley nearly spit out her drink at the thought of it, and she said she resented Phyllis for trying to seduce Ravi right after Jack and Phyllis had split. Ravi was glad he was single, and he explained that he hadn't found the right girl because his parents had set the bar pretty high. Ashley noted that he hadn't spoken much about his family, and Ravi confirmed that family was everything in his culture. Ravi raved about how great his parents were, and he thought he had a lot to live up to, which was why he wanted to do great things for Ashley and for Jabot.
Ashley said she almost felt grateful to Phyllis for paving the way to a lovely evening, and Ravi admitted that he hadn't been expecting a contract after he'd screwed up. Ashley noted that it had been nice to get to know him away from the office, and she hoped she hadn't been prying. He praised that Ashley had been surprisingly easy to talk to, and he usually didn't open up to people, but she was one of the warmest people he'd ever met.
At the cottage, Sharon held a framed photo of Dylan and stared at his wedding band. She flashed back to Dylan asking her to keep the ring safe for him, but he hadn't responded when she'd begged him to tell her that he would be home soon.
Paul stopped by to see Sharon, and he relayed that Dylan had wanted him to check up on her. He mentioned that Kevin had told him that she'd dropped by the station, and she griped that no one would tell her anything. Paul reiterated that it was for her own good and for Dylan's safety, but she questioned how she could know her husband was safe when she knew nothing about his assignment. Paul replied that she knew Dylan was smart and well trained, but she wished she could hear Dylan's voice to know he was all right. Paul asked if that had been why she'd risked blowing Dylan's cover by calling him.
Sharon wondered why a woman had answered Dylan's phone, and she fretted that perhaps Dylan was being kept against his will. Paul informed her that he'd spoken with Dylan, and that was how he'd known she'd made the call. He continued that Dylan had assumed the female caller had been Christine, and he demanded that Sharon promise that she wouldn't take that risk again. Sharon groused that all she could do was wait for either Dylan to walk through the door or Paul to tell her Dylan was dead. She recounted that Dylan hadn't been able to tell her that he would return home, and she kept thinking that Dylan had had a feeling he wouldn't. Paul insisted that Dylan would be back.
Sharon recalled that Dylan's wedding band had been on his finger since the day Paul had married them, but it was hidden in a box because the ring could expose Dylan. She showed Paul a photo of her and Dylan together, and she marveled that Dylan had forgiven her for her lies about Sully and stood by her. She wondered if Dylan would have taken the case if Sully had still been in their lives, and she thought Dylan had been willing to risk everything because he hadn't been able to stand spending another day in their house with an empty nursery.
Paul swore that he wouldn't have let Dylan go if he hadn't thought his son would make it back home. Sharon contemplated what would happen if she had ruined everything, but Paul assured her that Dylan was still okay, and he trusted Dylan to accomplish what he'd set out to do. Paul prepared to leave for the station, and Sharon pledged not to do anything else stupid. She offered to let him take Dylan's badge, but Paul suggested that she give it back to Dylan when he got home.
Later, Mariah arrived home and rambled to Sharon about how crazy it was that Devon and Hilary had worked things out. Mariah realized that Sharon seemed upset, and she asked if something had happened to Dylan. Sharon said Paul had informed her that Dylan was okay but that Dylan's cover might have been blown because she'd done something stupid. Sharon told Mariah about the call she'd made from the burner phone, and she lamented that she didn't know how she'd survive if something happened to Dylan because of her.
Sharon accidentally dropped the photo of Dylan and was dismayed when the glass cracked. Sharon wished that she'd never tried to call Dylan, but Mariah told her to stop spiraling, since Paul had confirmed that Dylan was fine. Sharon worried that Paul had just said what she'd needed to hear, but Mariah pointed out that Paul was an honest person who wouldn't have calmly told Sharon that things were fine if something had been wrong. Mariah insisted that Dylan was safe and would stay that way.
Paul returned to the police station, and Kevin reported that there had been no word from Dylan. Paul revealed that Sharon had admitted using the burner phone to call Dylan, and he wished he'd thought about what the case would do to Sharon. Kevin assured Paul that Dylan would make it back from his mission, just like he'd made it back from the war.
In Miami, Fisk demanded some answers from the man who was bound and gagged in his office. Dylan complained that he hadn't planned on making a deal in front of an audience, but Fisk asked his captive how someone had gotten certain information. The man swore he hadn't had a choice, but Fisk growled that the captive had had a choice and had made the wrong one. Fisk indicated for one of his thugs to haul the guy away. Fisk noted that they no longer had an audience, and he shook Dylan's hand as a gunshot fired outside.
Dylan calmly stated that the demonstration hadn't been necessary for his benefit, since it wasn't his first rodeo, and he said he had the cash. Dylan remarked that his boss wanted to know exactly what he was getting and when, but Fisk huffed that Dylan was paying for product and not information. Dylan argued that the product wasn't in the room, and his boss wanted details before handing the money over. Fisk stated that he could find another buyer who didn't make demands, and Dylan wished him luck. Dylan started to head out, but Fisk called after him and said he'd get the details when it was time. Dylan thought he'd already proven that Fisk could trust him, and Fisk recognized that Alex thought so, but he wasn't convinced.
Dylan insisted that delivery upon payment was part of the agreement, but Fisk clarified that the agreement was only for Dylan to get what he paid for. Dylan contended that he had to answer to his boss, and Alex mentioned that the boss was overeager, since "she" had already called. Fisk was surprised, since he knew the person who Dylan had said he worked for, and it definitely wasn't a woman. Fisk questioned who was really pulling Dylan's strings.
Dylan explained that his boss had a lieutenant named Amanda, and Fisk asked why she'd called. Alex reported that Amanda hadn't said much before she'd hung up, and Fisk queried how he was supposed to be sure that Amanda was second in command. Dylan reasoned that no one else had his number, and all that mattered was the exchange of money for product. Fisk asked why Dylan hadn't called Amanda back, and Dylan leered at Alex and claimed he'd been busy. Dylan demanded to know where, when, and how he'd get the shipment.
Alex used a machine to count Dylan's cash, and she reported that there was a discrepancy -- there was more than the agreed amount. Dylan explained that his boss had added five percent to ensure the deal went smoothly, and his boss wanted confirmation that the transaction was done, so he suggested that they get to the pier and finish it. Dylan told Alex that he'd catch up with her after he picked up the shipment, and Fisk instructed one of his henchmen to take Dylan to Pier 13 to the Esmerelda. Fisk declared that it had been a pleasure doing business, and he and Dylan shook hands.
In the back seat of a car, Dylan told the driver that he was going to listen to some music but to tell him when they got to the pier. Dylan realized that they were heading inland, and he demanded to know where they were going. He yelled to stop the car, but he found himself locked inside.
Due to the Inauguration of Donald J. Trump, The Young and the Restless did not air. This was a planned preemption and there were no "lost" episodes as a result of the preemption.
Regular programming resumed on Monday, January 23, 2017, and picked up where the Thursday, January 19, 2017, episode concluded.
