Grant was introduced to acting in prep school, where a supportive drama teacher, John van Meter, encouraged him to try out for a school production. He then attended Washington and Lee University in Virginia, and became heavily involved in the theater program.
He appeared in such diverse plays as The Crucible, The Owl and the Pussycat and The Glass Menagerie, and played the title roles in both Manson and Hamlet. He has also been seen on stage in Baltimore in The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie and Cat on a Hot Tin Roof.
Grant next went to New York City to pursue his professional acting career, attending classes at New York University and the Circle in the Square School. He worked for a year as a model before he began to land acting jobs.
Grant has spent time in Los Angeles, where he has had guest roles on such primetime series as Hardcastle and McCormick, Who's the Boss? and The Fall Guy.
