Jesse paced nervously back and forth waiting for his phone to ring. Zach coldly told Jesse that Cassandra's abduction had nothing to do with ransom or Jesse's position on the police force. Jesse demanded answers, prompting Zach to grab Jesse and tell him that it was "not about a kidnapping."

Some time passed, and Jesse made a few phone calls. His face was ashen as he confirmed that what Zach had told him was true: the Koslovs dealt in human trafficking. Zach urged Jesse to tell Angie was had happened, but Jesse remained hopeful that Cassandra would be quickly found and that Angie would not need to be told.

Later, Jesse made another phone call to get some assistance in finding Cassandra. He was furious when the person on the other end of the line declined to help, stating that the FBI was handling the matter.

At Pine Valley Hospital, Angie pulled Cara aside and prepared to break the news to her that David had been released from jail. Angie was more than a little surprised when Cara interrupted and stated that she'd already seen David. Cara added that she was "baffled" by Angie's constant defense of David. Angie quickly dispelled any notion that she was blind to David's past misdeeds. Angie pleaded with Cara to remember that Cara wasn't the only one who had lost a child -- David had, too. "He can find his own way forward," Cara snapped, stating that she refused to be any part of David's closure on the matter.

When things calmed down, Cara asked if it would be possible for her to find a more permanent position within the hospital. It had been Cara's plan to leave Pine Valley, but one of her patients, Mackenzie, was not responding to chemotherapy, and Cara wanted to stick around until the patient's condition improved. Angie offered to see what she could do. A nurse appeared and alerted Dr. Hubbard to an incident in JR Chandler's room.

Dixie walked into JR's room and found David towering over JR with his hands on JR's neck. "Get your hands off of him," Dixie screamed. As Dixie accused David of trying to kill JR, David issued a torrent of denials. When Angie and Cara arrived in the room, David insisted that he was checking JR's carotid pulse. Cara quickly noted that there was no reason for David to be checking JR's pulse because JR was not one of his patients. David sighed deeply and said that JR's hand had moved, and, with a tone of disappointment, David suggested that JR might be emerging from his coma.

Angie cleared the room, but she was unable to properly examine JR over the drone of David and Dixie arguing outside in the hallway. Dixie placed a phone call to Jesse and demanded that he head to the hospital and arrest David for violating the terms of his parole.

In her room at Bramwood Hall, Celia prepared for her date with Pete. Before leaving, she tucked the iPad he'd given her under her mattress so that no one would see it.

Later, as Celia and Pete drank coffee, Celia worried about having sneaked out. "That's the best part about rules -- breaking them," Pete replied with a laugh. Despite enjoying Pete's company, Celia said that she felt bad for lying to Evelyn, the woman who had been like a mother to her. Celia's voice grew soft as she revealed that both of her parents had been killed in a car accident when she was just a child.

Pete pressed for details about Celia's mysterious guardian, but Celia had little to offer. She explained that she'd never met her guardian, spoken to him, or even seen a picture of him. As for her parents, Celia smiled and said she kept photos of them in a locket. Celia panicked when she realized that her locket had broken and that one of the halves was missing. Pete explained that he'd found the piece of the locket after their first meeting and had it safely put away for her.

After their date, Celia returned to her room, fighting a smile, and she looked at herself in the mirror. Suddenly, an older man appeared behind her. Celia gasped and flipped on the lights to her room, but when she turned around, the man was nowhere to be seen. Celia slowly slid down the wall to the floor, her eyes darting nervously around the room.

As Hunter lay on the floor of the coffeehouse, AJ hovered over him, taunting him. Hunter vowed that AJ had messed with the wrong guy. The two young men were set to tangle again, but Jane stepped between them and ordered them to stand down. AJ turned to check on Miranda, but she had run off.

Jane nabbed one of the teenager's phones and watched the video playback of the altercation and the events leading up to it. Jane quickly realized that every one of the amassed teens had known what was going to take place in her establishment. "What the hell's wrong with you?" she asked the group of about a dozen teens. Since Sally was 18 and Miranda was still a minor, Jane threatened to ban from her coffeehouse anyone who even thought of posting a video of the incident on the Internet. Jane also threatened to call the teens' parents and the police, if necessary.

AJ found Miranda alone on a bench, crying. Miranda rolled her eyes upon seeing her friend and told him to get his "I told you so's" out of the way. "The whole school thinks I'm a freak... just like my mom," she sobbed. AJ reminded Miranda they she and he were "the good guys," and he argued that Bianca was one of the coolest moms he knew. AJ pulled Miranda close and comforted her.

Back at Jane's Addiction, Bianca was somewhat shocked to see Zach. They exchanged pleasantries, with Bianca revealing that Gabby was "growing like a weed" and had Zach's eyes. Zach asked about Kendall, and Bianca admitted that Kendall didn't get back to Pine Valley very often since Kendall and Zach divorced. "She is determined to move on with her life," Bianca stated.

Zach insisted that he wanted Kendall to be happy, but wished that it would include him. Bianca noted that it wasn't easy for Kendall to leave town, and urged Zach to move on with his life the way that Kendall had. Jane walked over to talk to Bianca, and Zach said that he had to be going. Jane decided that she needed to tell Bianca what had happened earlier in the day.

Zach left the coffeehouse for a meeting with a somewhat disheveled young man. Zach bluntly noted that the man owed his casino a large sum of money. Despite the somewhat veiled threat, the man said that he didn't have any information for Zach. Zach pressed for information about the Russian mob, but the man didn't blink. He then told Zach that it he wouldn't risk his life by divulging any information that he might know. The man then scurried away.

At Chandler Mansion, AJ arranged for Miranda to spend the night. AJ left his room briefly to send Bianca a text message informing her that Miranda would be spending the night. Alone in the room, Miranda started ripping apart the clothes that she had been wearing.

Later, the two teens lay atop AJ's bed, discussing what had happened. Miranda feared that she'd be the laughingstock at school. AJ assured her that it would pass and reminded her of an unfortunate incident he'd had with a zipper. He chuckled slightly as he recalled the numerous testicle jokes he'd had to endure. As a smile crept across Miranda's face, the door to the bedroom opened, and Bianca appeared.

AJ excused himself so that Miranda and Bianca could talk. Miranda tore into her mother, saying that she'd sought refuge at the Chandler Mansion because she didn't want to see Bianca. Miranda continued, saying that what had happened at the coffeehouse had been all Bianca's fault. Bianca was taken aback and asked for an explanation. Miranda accused her mother of putting her through the same things that Bianca had been forced to endure as the daughter of Erica Kane. "Instead of having Pine Valley's most famous celebrity as my mother, I got Pine Valley's most famous lesbian," Miranda snarled.

Bianca was dumbfounded and asked Miranda where her anger was coming from. Miranda accused Bianca of over-presenting her homosexuality and asked if Bianca had ever thought about how other people would be impacted by her being a lesbian. Bianca struggled to find a response and ultimately decided that it would be best for her to leave before she said or did something that she'd regret.

Back at the hospital, when Jesse arrived, he reminded David that per the terms of his parole, David was to remain at least 100 yards away from JR at all times.

A short time later, Angie exited JR's room and said that she'd seen no signs that indicated David had been trying to kill JR. She also admitted that there was no indication that JR was emerging from his coma. Dixie continued to press for David's arrested, but Angie reminded everyone that they had all done things that they were not proud of. Jesse agreed not to haul David to the police station, prompting Angie to turn to her former colleague and warn him, "Don't make me regret this." David smiled smugly and offered Angie advice on a course of action for JR. Angie shot David an icy glare and headed back into JR's room.

In the locker room, Cara placed a call to an unknown person with an update that she would not be able to get away from Pine Valley as soon as she'd hoped. "It's breaking my heart to stay away," she stated,

Elsewhere in the hospital, David was skulking about the corridor outside JR's room, unaware that Angie had her eye on him. Inside JR's room, his monitoring devices started to beep loudly as JR opened his eyes.

At the Chandler mansion, Bianca discussed the incident regarding Miranda the previous night. Bianca was sad that kids could be so cruel. Bianca noted that she and her daughter had been dealing with the issue since Miranda had started school, and Bianca felt guilty that Miranda had to go through it.

Upstairs, AJ struggled to awaken Miranda. He tempted her with food, and she climbed from beneath the covers. His alarm sounded, and he said they needed to get going. Miranda, however, asserted that there was no way she was ever going to school again.

AJ went downstairs, and Bianca decided to go upstairs to talk to her daughter. After she left, Adam entered and said he'd been on the phone with the school principal. AJ assumed the principal had wanted his version of events from the previous evening, but Adam said that AJ had been suspended.

AJ was outraged by his punishment, and he couldn't believe his principal had his "head up his ass" in the aftermath of Miranda's devastation. Adam didn't disagree and was sure Hunter had deserved a thrashing. "But uh..." Adam started to say. AJ saw no buts about it because a punch in the face was all Hunter Morrison understood. AJ stalked off, raging about how Hunter and his gang got to skate on punishment. "The boy's got spirit," Adam uttered to himself.

Upstairs, Bianca entered AJ's room. Miranda sobbed, saying she was sorry, and she hadn't meant what she'd said earlier. Bianca readily hugged her daughter. Bianca said she understood why Miranda had blamed Bianca, but Miranda replied that she hadn't meant it. Still, Bianca stated that Miranda had to feel like, "Why did my mom have to be gay?"

In her childhood, Bianca had often wondered why her mother had had to be Erica Kane. Bianca had wanted a normal mother, one that would be so normal that no one would expect anything from Bianca. Miranda wished she could just disappear because no one liked her, and she didn't blame them because she didn't like herself at times, either. Bianca tried to say what a good friend, sibling, and daughter Miranda was, but Miranda said that, to the world, she was a total joke.

Bianca uttered that her daughter sounded just like Bianca had sounded at that age. Bianca recalled that people had pretended to be her friend, and she'd made tabloid headlines for being Erica Kane's gay daughter. Bianca confided that she'd been blackmailed, and the fear of being found out and losing her mother's love had been crushing.

Bianca explained that things had gotten better, and she'd gotten stronger. Miranda sobbed that she wasn't strong like her mother, and she couldn't go back and face the kids. Bianca replied that Miranda was strong, and not facing those people would mean letting them win. Miranda declared that they'd already won, and Miranda didn't want to give them another chance to make her feel worse.

Bianca suggested that they give it a few days, but Miranda begged her mother to send her to Bramwell -- or Siberia. Miranda preferred home schooling over going back to her own school.

Just then, AJ entered, complaining about his school suspension. Bianca left to talk to Adam about it, and Miranda guessed AJ hated her for the development. He said he couldn't hate her, and it wasn't her fault. AJ vowed that he'd do it all over again if Hunter got out of line.

Miranda remarked that she wouldn't have to see Hunter again. She told AJ that she was trying to get her mother to transfer her to Bramwell. AJ replied that she couldn't do that because they did everything together, and he'd look like "hell" in a plaid skirt. Laughing, Miranda threw her arms around him and proclaimed that she "loved, loved, loved" him.

In JR's hospital room, Joe entered and noted that Dixie had spent the night at her son's bedside. He gave her some coffee and asked if she'd heard from Tad. She relayed that Tad had been incommunicado since he'd gone on his assignment. She'd known it would be that way, but she missed Tad and had hoped she would hear from him.

Dixie had hoped that she and Tad would have been married and raising Kathy together by then. Instead, Dixie had been staring at the stars for all that time while he was off "God knows where" on assignment. Joe said she could always lean on him and Ruth. Dixie wished something good would happen, and she swore she wouldn't give up on JR.

Later, Dixie, who'd stepped out of JR's room, returned and saw Adam in the room, talking to JR. She was mortified upon hearing Adam say that he'd put Brooke in charge of the business, something he would have done regardless of JR being in the hospital. Adam called JR a drunk and the disappointment of Adam's life. Dixie admonished Adam for daring to speak to JR that way.

Adam stated that JR had hurt a lot of people. Dixie said she knew that, and she grieved it each day. She asserted that JR had struggled to overcome a lot, including overcoming Adam. She questioned whether Adam had the heart to show some kindness to their son.

Dixie said that JR had been a victim that night, and the man who'd shot JR was out of prison. Adam was shocked that David was back in Pine Valley. Dixie added that David had been there with his hands around JR's throat. Adam feared that David would go after AJ. "And to hell with JR?" Dixie asked.

Adam exclaimed that JR had hurt people and bankrupted Adam's company. Dixie asked Adam to stop worrying about his blessed company and remember that his son was his pride and joy. She asked that Adam rise above his own loss and tell JR that Adam missed JR and loved him.

Leaning over the sleeping JR, Adam said that he loved JR and always would. Dixie thanked Adam, and they left the room. "Dad..." JR groggily uttered after they had gone.

At Bramwell Hall, Brooke arrived in Celia's room to return something Celia had left at the mansion. Brooke was floored upon seeing all the flowers in the room. The beaming Celia said that Pete had sent them, and Brooke concluded that he was smitten.

Celia confided that she and Pete had been on a real date, but she asked that Brooke not tell anyone. Celia was glowing as she described how wonderful Pete was. Brooke agreed that Pete was great, but she wondered how Celia's guardian would feel about the development. Celia claimed that she was happy, and she didn't care what he thought.

At Jane's addiction, Pete introduced Jane to Dylan Wilder, "one of the best coders in the West." Shaking Jane's hand, Dylan corrected that he was the best one the planet. The men sat at a table, and Dylan said that Lizette would be upset that Pete wasn't going to Lake Tahoe. Pete figured she wouldn't be alone for long. Jane got the men some coffee, and Dylan flirted with her.

After Jane left, Pete joked that Dylan wasn't mature enough for a woman like her. Dylan wondered who Pete was hooking up with -- if it wasn't Jane. As Dylan pried Pete for details, Pete spotted Celia outside and excused himself from the table.

Outside, Pete greeted Celia, and they chatted about their previous date. He asked if he could give her the surprise he had for her over dinner that night, and Celia said it would be better if she met up him somewhere other than the school. They agreed to meet back at Jane's in a few hours. Pete tried to touch her hair, but Celia shyly backed away and took off.

Pete returned inside, and Dylan ribbed Pete about picking a young one. Unbeknownst to them, Celia entered the café and could hear them talking. Dylan joked that Celia had been blushing when Pete had spoken to her. Dylan assumed Pete intended to take Celia's "V-card" and send her on her way.

Celia left in a huff before she could hear Pete reply that Dylan was off-base. Pete confided that he really liked the girl. There was something about her, and Pete hadn't ever met anyone like her.

Later, Pete was alone when Jane poured him more coffee. He wondered to himself if he'd just been stood up. Back at Bramwell, Celia threw Pete's flowers in the trash. Her phone rang. Pete's number flashed on the caller-ID, and Celia grimaced.

At Jesse's house, Jesse informed Zach that he'd contacted Immigration and Customs Enforcement about the human trafficking, but the organization had no information on the Koslovs. Zach had learned that he and Jesse were probably dealing with Koslov's son, who'd newly minted himself as an "entrepreneur." The son was new to the scene, and Jesse figured that would make Cassandra even harder to find.

Jesse decided he needed to get all the information he could on missing girls in the area. He hoped that finding them would lead to locating his daughter. Zach said he was going to check out a lead that he hoped might shake the snake from under its rock, and he promised Jesse that they'd find Cassandra.

Later, Jesse met with a woman and questioned her about her daughter's disappearance. Her daughter's name was Alicia, and she'd been recruited by a modeling agency in New York. Alicia had been missing for five months, and the woman blamed herself for not checking up on the agency. The mother said that she stayed awake at night, wondering if she'd ever see her daughter again. Jesse cupped the woman's hand and looked as if he understood the feeling.

Jesse and Zach met up in the park, and Jesse shared that he'd learned that some of the missing girls in the area had disappeared after answering ads to work in New York, Paris, and even Switzerland. One girl had disappeared after meeting a man for coffee. "So much for a pattern," Zach replied.

Zach's source had told him that the mob put the stolen girls to work locally, servicing clients. He'd learned that the mob used booze and drugs to keep the girls from running, and once the girls were "ready," they were shipped around the world. Zach said the process could take mere days, and Jesse grew worried that if they didn't find Cassandra soon, she'd be lost forever.

At an unknown location, Vlad threw a breakfast sandwich at Cassandra, and she threw it right back at him. He was about to hit her again when he heard another door close. He locked Cassandra in her room and went into the corridor in time to see his boss, Uri, ambling his way. Vlad asked what Uri was doing down there, and Uri replied that he was about to ask Vlad the same thing.

Uri had noticed that Vlad had been taking food there a few times a day, and Uri guessed that there was a girl in the room behind Vlad. Vlad claimed the girl was trouble, and Uri guessed Vlad wanted to teach her a lesson. Vlad insisted that she wasn't like the others; however, Uri asserted that she was like the others and needed to be with the others. "You don't touch the merchandise. Is that clear?" Uri asked, menacingly adding, "Do it again, and you're a dead man."

Uri went into Cassandra's holding room and softly said she had to be hungry. Cassandra fearfully shook her head, and Uri said he apologized for Vlad. Cassandra begged Uri to let her go home, but he said it would be very upsetting for her family to see her in her condition. He called her a beautiful girl and offered her some pills to help the pain.

Cassandra shook her head, but Uri reasoned that they needed to trust each other. He offered to remove her handcuffs if she agreed not to do anything silly. She nodded, and he removed the cuffs. He remarked that trust was a beautiful thing, and he could help her and take care of her if she let him. He gave her a pill. She took it and washed it down with water.

Uri went to the corridor, where Vlad was waiting. Uri was enraged that Vlad had roughed up Cassandra. Vlad said the customers did it all the time; however, Uri replied that the customers could do what they wanted. Striking Vlad, Uri said Vlad would regret hitting her again.

Uri explained that they'd planned to ship Cassandra out that night, but because of Vlad, they had to wait until the bruises healed. Vlad replied that they'd ship out more girls the following week. Uri warned that Cassandra had better be ready. Handing Vlad the pill bottle, Uri said to get her hooked, and she'd do anything they wanted.

Back in the room, Cassandra seemed jittery, and the room was spinning.

At the café, Angie saw Jesse and Zach getting coffee, and as she greeted them, she wondered why Zach was still in town. Angie then recalled that Zach had wanted to hire some officers to increase his security at his casinos. Zach added that Jesse was helping him with a case, too. She replied that it had to be a big one because Jesse had been a bundle of nerves in the past days.

Angie received a text message, and she was disappointed that it wasn't from Cassandra. Angie had sent three texts to her daughter, who hadn't responded. She asked if Jesse had heard from Cassandra because Cassandra was usually good at getting back with people.

A call on Zach's phone interrupted the conversation, and Zach went outside to take the call. Jesse tried to follow him, but Angie pulled Jesse back to ask what had him so jittery. Jesse claimed it was the case, but Angie insisted that it had to do with Jesse. She ordered him to tell her what it was.

Later, Jesse met Zach on the bench outside. Zach had a lead on a nail salon called the "Fancy Finger" that had a lot of male clientele who expected more than a buff and a polish. Women entered and left the place early in the morning and late at night, but during the day, only men went in and out.

That night, Zach and Jesse took guns and flashlights down to investigate the salon. The place was dark, so they figured someone had tipped the suspects off. Zach picked the lock, and they entered to search the place. After not finding any clues inside, they headed out back to the dumpster.

At the hospital, Dixie was surprised to see AJ at his father's bedside. She said she didn't know AJ visited JR. The defensive AJ claimed he normally didn't, but he'd been at the hospital, picking up forms for baseball. She said that she and JR were glad to see AJ, and JR really loved his son. AJ bit out that if it were true, JR wouldn't have had a gun at Adam's engagement party and ruined everyone's lives -- including AJ's. Dixie asserted that the blame for that fell on David Hayward.

AJ exited the room and ran into David in the corridor. David was excited to see AJ, who'd turned into quite the young man in David's eyes. The mirthless AJ stated that the guard was supposed to keep David away from JR. David replied that JR wasn't the only patient in the hospital, but AJ responded that David had lost his medical license.

David stated that he'd lost a lot of things, but he hoped he hadn't lost his grandson. Gazing at AJ, David said the boy favored his mother. AJ tried to leave, but David stopped AJ, saying he'd never meant to hurt AJ with what had happened. David said he'd regret that incident for the rest of his life. David claimed to understand AJ's anger but promised to be there for anything AJ needed.

As David left, Dixie saw him, and she asked the guard to call the police if David caused any problems. She asked AJ what David had done or said to him, but AJ responded that David hadn't done anything. Dixie warned AJ to stay away from David.

At the mansion, Adam prepared to leave on a business trip. He wanted to say goodbye to AJ, who was supposed to be at home in a tutoring session with Miranda. AJ wasn't responding to Miranda's text messages, and Adam said he'd call when he landed, as he'd promised AJ that morning.

Brooke assured Adam that she'd keep AJ in line while Adam was gone. Adam wanted her to keep David away, as well, and Brooke couldn't believe David had been in JR's room. Adam figured David had an agenda, and Adam wished he knew what it was.

Later, Celia was tutoring Miranda when Celia's phone rang. Miranda noted that someone had been calling Celia all morning. Celia sighed, saying she didn't want to talk to him. Miranda wanted to hear all about it, and Celia responded that the guy had turned out to be a jerk. "At least he didn't ask you to do a threesome with another girl," Miranda replied.

Celia was shocked that someone had asked Miranda to do that. Miranda said the worst part was that she'd actually believed that the guy had liked her. Celia replied that she'd believed the same thing about her guy until she'd overheard him discussing taking her virginity. Celia couldn't believe she'd thought of defying her guardian for him.

Miranda asked where Celia's parents were, and Celia explained that they'd died when she was a baby. Miranda shared that her father had been a sperm donor, and she doubted her mother had tried to find out anything about him. Miranda wished she at least knew what he looked like.

Celia showed Miranda half of a charm and said on it was a picture of Celia's father. The other half of the charm contained a picture of Celia's mother. Celia explained that the guy calling her phone had it, and though she desperately wanted it back, she never wanted to see him again.

Later, AJ returned, and Miranda asked where her coffee was. AJ absently replied that some skateboarders had crashed into him, and he'd dropped it. The housekeeper entered with a corsage that had arrived, and Celia asked who it was for. Miranda explained that AJ had gotten it for her, so they could go to the school dance together -- as friends.

Miranda refused to face the kids at the dance, and she recalled that AJ had been suspended anyway. She exclaimed that school sucked and left to get coffee from the kitchen. Celia figured there had to be something that could cheer Miranda up, and AJ smiled as if he had an idea.

Later, Celia ended the tutoring session, and Brooke entered. Brooke told Celia that she'd visited Opal and Pete and had complimented Pete on the flowers he'd sent Celia. Celia looked unhappy and remarked that things hadn't gone well with Pete. Brooke was sorry about that but considered it for the best because Pete wasn't supposed to be in town for long.

Later, Miranda was alone reading when AJ whizzed in, scrambling to finish a project. She reminded him that he was suspended from school and shared her suspicion that he'd visited JR instead of making a coffee run earlier. AJ got defensive. He rasped that his father was gone, and it was nice not to have to put up with any "shit" from JR. AJ stormed out, and in the area where AJ had been working, Miranda found a greeting card with her name on it.

At Opal's house, Opal asked Pete about his date with Celia, but Pete sadly said Celia hadn't shown up. Hugging him, Opal stated that the only woman he could really count on was his mama.

Later, Pete went to the café to help Jane install some apps, and Jane wondered why he was there and not on a hot date with Celia. Pete replied that Celia wasn't interested. Jane reasoned that Celia had certainly looked interested, but he quipped that looks could be deceiving.

As Pete worked, Celia entered. They exchanged intense looks, and Celia sat on the other side of the room. Pete set the broken charm piece on her table and walked back to his seat.

Back at the hospital, Dixie returned to JR's room, and her phone rang. She became overjoyed upon seeing that it was Tad calling, She answered and asked when he'd be returning. Disappointed with the response he gave, she said she missed him. Tad seemed to ask what was going on with her, and Dixie hoped he was sitting down, because David Hayward was back in town.

After the call, Dixie bickered to the sleeping JR about David trying to get close to AJ. Dixie figured that David would try to take advantage of the situation and claim that AJ needed a man in his life. She insisted that the man wouldn't be David. Dixie told JR that AJ needed his father, and she needed her son. As Dixie turned to leave, JR's eyes fluttered, and she heard him utter, "Mom..."

In the locker room, David entered, and a teary-faced Cara noted he'd arrived quickly. David was surprised that she'd wanted to see him. Cara apologized for avoiding him and treating him "like crap." He remarked that it was typical behavior of most people in that town. She replied that she wasn't most people, and they'd shared a baby together. David thanked her for remembering that, and Cara stated that it was time she told him everything that had happened with the baby.

The two went to the park, and by the bench, Cara explained that she'd had to get out of Pine Valley after he'd gone to prison. She claimed she'd joined Doctors Without Borders in Haiti. David mentioned a DWB surgeon he knew there, and Cara claimed she'd worked with a lot of people and didn't remember the names.

David asked if getting away had helped. Cara explained that concentrating on the devastation there had made her realize how lucky she'd been to have her baby and her health. While there, she'd been cramping. The doctor there hadn't found anything wrong but had put her on bed rest for the remainder of the pregnancy. "And yet you still miscarried?" David asked.

Cara claimed it was true, and David realized how hard it must have been for her to be alone. He wished he'd been there for her. She said she knew what the baby had meant to him, and he'd deserved to hear about it in person. She told him that she hadn't been able to travel or call him from Haiti. David remarked that the letter hadn't arrived from Haiti. Cara claimed she'd had a currier take it to America.

David didn't understand why Cara had sent the letter instead of waiting to speak to him once she'd returned to the States. Defensively, Cara replied that he'd been expecting a child, and she hadn't wanted him waiting for and thinking about a child he'd no longer had. David couldn't understand her being unable to muster the strength in five years to visit him and tell him that his child had died.

Cara apologized and said visiting him would have meant reliving it. David asked if she were sure that there hadn't been other reasons or people that had prevented her from visiting him. Cara claimed that she'd stayed away simply to maintain her sanity, and David wished he could believe that.

Cara replied that she wasn't going to make up things to satisfy David's questions. She just hoped he'd appreciate her telling him what had happened. David said he did, and she asked him to move on and let her do the same. David became pensive as Cara marched off.

David returned to the hospital and saw Angie. He told her that Cara had explained things to him, and Angie said it should help him move on. David suspected that was exactly what Cara wanted him to do; however, something wasn't right, and he was determined to figure out what it was.

Cara returned to the hospital locker room and got on the phone with someone at a clinic. She urged them to destroy all correspondence and any other evidence that she'd ever been there. She insisted that no one could ever know why she'd been to their clinic.

At Jane's Addiction, Celia approached Pete and coldly remarked that he could have mailed her charm, because she had no intention of seeing him again. He retorted that he'd gotten the message loud and clear when she'd stood him up. Celia couldn't believe that Pete was mad at her, and she snapped that he was lucky that she hadn't slapped him when she'd found out what he had intended to do. A clueless Pete asked what she was talking about.

Celia accused Pete of putting on a "good guy act," and he called her a princess and told her to play her games with someone else. She declared that she was glad that she had found out that he had been playing her before she'd fallen for him, and she stalked out. Pete chased after Celia and asked her to slow down. She surmised that wasn't what he and his friend had had in mind when they'd talked about her "v-card," and she divulged that she'd overheard every disgusting detail of their conversation.

Pete called Dylan a pig, and he informed Celia that he had stood up to Dylan and had said that he'd never met a girl like Celia before. Pete admitted that he'd been around the block a lot, but he argued that she should have asked him to explain instead of screwing him over. Celia was sure that he'd found other girls to screw in her absence, but he reiterated that he didn't want anyone else but her. She looked doubtful.

Pete assured Celia that he only wanted to have dinner with her, and she expected that the next step would be to get her wasted, so he could brag about his latest conquest. He pointed out that he didn't need to get girls drunk to be with him, and she huffed that he just charmed his way into their pants. Pete vowed to prove himself to Celia, but he required that she give him a chance. She remained unsure, but he promised that they'd stay in public and that he'd have her home before curfew. He hopefully asked if she was in.

Later, Celia sneaked back into her room through the window, and Pete followed and almost fell on top of her. He apologized, and she worried that he shouldn't be there, but he contended that a gentleman walked a lady home. Pete asked to see her again the next day, but Celia noticed that he was bleeding, and she ran to get a tissue. She dabbed at a cut on his head from the rose thorns on the trellis, and they looked like they were about to kiss. He repeated his inquiry about the next day, and she caved in, but she insisted that he go. He crawled out the window, and she was clearly enamored.

At the Chandler mansion, Miranda opened the mysterious card. She found an invitation to a special evening and a handful of red flower petals inside. She followed a trail of flower petals up the stairs to the bedroom, and she opened a gift box and discovered a beautiful dress inside. AJ appeared and asked if he'd done okay, and he worried that she didn't like it. She thought that the gown was awesome, and AJ crowed that he'd shot and scored.

Miranda called the dress perfect, but she suspected that it was for the school dance, and she proclaimed that she'd rather die than go. AJ tried to calm Miranda down, but she insisted that she couldn't face the kids who'd seen Hunter trash her, and she refused to attend the dance. AJ declared that he wasn't going, either, and he told her to put on the dress and meet him downstairs. He left, and she picked up the frock again and smiled.

Miranda descended the stairs in the gown, and she called out for AJ. He appeared, dressed in a suit, and she remarked that he had cleaned up nicely. They agreed that they both looked "totally hot," and he slid a corsage onto her wrist. They stood intimately close for a moment, and she asked what he had planned. He told her to close her eyes, and she teased him for being cheesy, but she obliged.

AJ led Miranda into the living room and told her to open her eyes. He had set up the room with twinkling lights, and he revealed an area that was set up for a band. A group of young men entered the room, and she squealed in delight as she recognized them as the members of Hot Chelle Rae. A thrilled Miranda watched the band perform "Hung Up" as AJ gazed adoringly at Miranda.

AJ and Miranda danced, and she asked why he'd gone to such great lengths. He claimed that she'd needed a pick-me-up after the ordeal with Hunter, and she called him a genius. Miranda gushed that she would never forget it, and she hugged AJ.

Angie scolded David for being at the hospital. He requested her opinion about Cara, and Angie advised him to let Cara go. He inquired why Cara was staying in Pine Valley, and Angie revealed that Cara had asked whether there was room on staff, because Cara had wanted to continue to oversee the care of a particular patient. David questioned whether Angie had been surprised by Cara's change of heart, and Angie conceded that it might have had something to do with him.

In JR's room, Dixie gasped and called JR's name. JR's eyes fluttered, and he croaked, "Mom." Dixie rushed to his side and began to cry tears of joy. Dixie excitedly summoned Angie and told her that JR was awake. Angie rushed in to tend to JR, and David tried to follow, but a security guard stopped David from entering JR's room. JR called Angie by name, and both Angie and Dixie were relieved that he remembered Angie.

Dixie explained to JR that he had been in a coma for five years, and he looked bewildered. Dixie asked Angie if JR would be okay, and Angie reported that JR's muscle tone was weak, but his reflexes were normal, and she predicted that he would soon be holding his own. Angie said that she needed to run some neurological tests and that JR would have to undergo intense physical therapy, but overall, she didn't see anything to worry about. Dixie thanked her, and Angie left.

JR asked if Dixie had been there the whole time, and she replied that she'd visited him every day. He questioned whether she'd ever thought that he might not wake up, and she assured him that she'd never given up. He asked what had happened, and she mentioned Adam and Brooke's engagement party. JR assumed that Adam and Brooke had gotten married, and Dixie informed him that they'd waited, but it was a long story. She disclosed that JR had been shot on the night of the party, but JR didn't remember anything.

Angie left a message for Megan, Cassandra's roommate in Paris, to find out why Cassandra hadn't returned Angie's calls. David approached and asked about JR, and Angie warned him to stay away, but she conceded that she had been wrong about JR's finger twitch being an involuntary reflex. David realized that JR was awake, and he asked about JR's brain function. Angie reluctantly reported that JR appeared to be perfectly normal, and David ranted that his own daughter was dead, while JR had walked away, unscathed. Angie encouraged David to let it go, but David doubted that Angie would do nothing if she'd lost a child to a monster.

Griffin found Cara in the locker room, and he suspected that David had cornered her, but she admitted that she had approached David to explain about the baby. Griffin wondered if she'd told the truth, and she said no, but she didn't believe that David had bought her lie. Griffin informed Cara that she'd missed an appointment with Mackenzie, and Cara explained that she had been avoiding David. Cara was determined to formulate a plan to convince David to leave her alone for good.

Griffin implored Cara to forget about David, but she was sure that David would never let it go. She resolved to make sure that David never found out what had happened to the baby, but David overheard the end of her sentence and wanted to know what she was keeping from him. Griffin ordered David to leave her alone, but David believed there was more to the story than a miscarriage. David bellowed that he'd had enough, and he demanded to know whether she had lied to him. Cara silently looked at Griffin, and a horrified David questioned whether she'd had an abortion.

Vlad forced two bruised and beaten women into the room with Cassandra, who asked what had happened to them. A brunette woman said that she badly needed a pill, and she begged Cassandra for one. A blonde woman remarked that Cassandra was pretty, and she sadly recalled that she had once been pretty, too. Cassandra looked for a means to escape, but the blonde woman told her that the men outside wouldn't let her go.

The brunette woman incoherently rambled about being a good girl, and Cassandra asked what was wrong with her. The blonde woman explained that if they were bad, the men made them "do it without the pills." Cassandra wondered what she meant, and the brunette curled up on the bed and desperately pleaded for a pill. The blonde advised Cassandra to remember that the customer was always right. Cassandra panicked.

The blonde woman suspected that Cassandra had already taken a pill, and she remarked that Cassandra would need the drugs. Cassandra replied that she wouldn't, because she was going to get out of there. The brunette woman begged Cassandra to make sure that her baby was safe. Vlad entered and grabbed Cassandra, and he growled that it was time for her to earn her keep.

Jesse and Zach searched the alley behind the nail salon, and they heard a noise in a Dumpster. They found a young woman inside, and Jesse reported that her pulse was weak and that she was freezing. Zach called an ambulance, while Jesse cradled the woman in his arms and urged her to hold on. Jesse noted that there were bruises all over the woman's body.

The woman began to stir, and Jesse implored her to hang in there. Zach pushed Jesse to tell Angie the truth to prepare her for the worst, but Jesse thought that it would kill Angie. Jesse held the young woman tightly in his arms. Later, Zach searched the alley and found a card for a gentlemen's club.

Angie heard back from Megan and learned that Cassandra had left Paris to return to Pine Valley a few days before, thanks to a plane ticket from Jesse. Jesse approached and said that he needed to talk to Angie, and Angie confronted him about the plane ticket. Jesse explained that he'd wanted to surprise Angie, but his voice trailed off. Angie asked where Cassandra was, and Jesse admitted that he didn't know.
