Primetime star Shemar Moore, known to soap fans as The Young and the Restless' Malcolm Winters, revealed on Christmas Eve that he tested positive for COVID-19.
The actor, who currently stars on the CBS drama S.W.A.T., took to Instagram with the news of his diagnosis, sharing that his symptoms initially resembled food poisoning but that he was feeling well overall.
"I thought I had food poisoning," he wrote. "Chills and aches all day today... still can smell, taste, no cough, no runny nose."
Moore shared that even though he felt fine and was continuing to wrap Christmas presents, he knew that he needed to be responsible. "My Xmas n New Years is clearly not gonna be the best," he wrote. "My last year and a half has not been the best... but I will be okay. This is a hard time for all of us... the world! But... I believe in the sun shining through the rain. Stay safe and appreciate everything and everybody you have and had. Much love!"
Moore followed up with a Christmas Day Instagram video in which he danced away the many woes of 2020 and thanked fans who reached out with supportive, get-well messages.
While S.W.A.T. resumed filming in August, Deadline reports that the drama has been on a holiday hiatus throughout December, which means Moore has plenty of time to focus on recovery and safety during his time off. If the actor's recovery goes well, his positive test results "likely won't impact any filming" of the series.
Moore played the role of Malcolm Winters from 1994 to 2005 before going on to find primetime success on Criminal Minds and S.W.A.T.. He returned to Y&R in September 2014 for a special storyline in which Neil (Kristoff St. John) lost his vision and in April 2019 for an on-air tribute to St. John, who passed away earlier that year.
