Today's episode of The Dr. Oz Show is an especially emotional one for fans of the late The Young and the Restless actor Kristoff St. John (ex-Neil Winters), who passed away on February 3. The actor's ex-wife, Mia St. John, visited the talk show to discuss St. John's passing and reveals that he had many personal demons that stemmed from the death of their son Julian, who took his own life in 2014.
During the interview, the former world champion boxer explains that their son had schizophrenia, and once Julian took his life in the mental health facility where he had received treatment, Kristoff never recovered.
"It was our biggest nightmare. And he never, ever could recover from the guilt," she reveals. "He felt guilty, he felt responsible. Even though the facility was found guilty of neglect and falsifying records. And I kept trying to tell him over and over again that it was not his fault."
Mia also reveals during the emotional interview that her ex-husband was not only battling grief, but he was also struggling with bipolar disorder and alcohol dependency issues. In fact, when Dr. Oz asks her how she believes St. John died earlier this month, she shares: "I wanna believe that it was an alcohol accidental overdose."
Mia, who also struggles with dependency issues, admits to Dr. Oz that, sadly, she has also struggled to stay sober throughout her family's tragedy.
"I lost my 30 years. But you know what? I am not giving up," she declares. "You know, so I start over again. I pick myself back up, and I'm going to continue my path for better mental health in this country. I'm going to continue to fight for it. It's my biggest fight now."
