Days of our Lives submitted three episodes for consideration at this year's WGA Awards. The episodes included Doug's bombshell announcement that he was possessed by the devil, Doug and Julie battling a possessed Marlena, and Marlena's (second) exorcism. The episodes aired September 20, December 24, and December 28, 2021.
The DAYS writing team is helmed by head writer Ron Carlivati. The award-winning writing team includes writers Lorraine Broderick, Joanna Cohen, Carolyn Culliton, Richard Culliton, Jamey Giddens, David Kreizman, Rebecca McCarty, Ryan Quan, Dave Ryan, Katherine D. Schock, and Elizabeth Snyder.
Also nominated this year were General Hospital and The Young and the Restless. The Bold and the Beautiful has not submitted itself for consideration for several years.
Winners are chosen based on votes cast by 15,000 WGA members. General Hospital won the trophy for five years in a row, from 2015 to 2019, before The Young and the Restless broke GH's winning streak in 2020. Prior to last year's win, DAYS's most recent win was in 2014.
Big winners in the non-soap categories included Don't Look Up, CODA, and Succession.
