It looks like Lee Daniels' music drama series, Star, is losing its soapy connection.
Former daytime drama writer Charles Pratt has decided to quit his role as the series' show runner after just one season, states The Hollywood Reporter. Though it's a surprise to fans, the news is reportedly not a shocker to insiders; Pratt's rep states he originally planned to stick around for only one year, and his split with the show was amicable.
Star is now searching for a replacement to take the lead position -- the second time it has had to do so in its short history. As fans may recall, Pratt was a replacement for Charley Murray, who served as co-show runner alongside co-creator/executive producer Tom Donaghy for the series that was just renewed for a second season last month.
There's no word yet on why Pratt decided to hand over the reins to Star or whether or not he plans to return to daytime. Previous writing roles he has held in the genre include head writer of General Hospital, head writer of Santa Barbara, a critically panned stint as head writer of The Young and the Restless, and a disastrous run as head writer of All My Children that many believe led to the show's cnacellation. He's also responsible for co-creating the now-defunct daytime drama Sunset Beach as well as serving in various other roles in the daytime industry throughout his several-decade career.
