Soap opera alums Robert Fontaine (ex-Frankie Greco, General Hospital; ex-Ray Guzman, As the World Turns; ex-Rage Castillo, Santa Barbara) and Michael Brainard (ex-Joey Martin, All My Children; ex-Ted Capwell, SB) haven't been in the daytime genre for quite some time, but that doesn't mean they don't know drama. In fact, the pair seems to have quite a firm grasp on the subject, as proven by their latest project: a serious hate crime film called Mi America.

Fontaine wrote and directed the film, which focuses on the upheaval of a small, ethnically diverse city in upstate New York after a heartbreaking hate crime. "After the kidnapping and disappearance of five Hispanic migrant labors, Hispanic-American detective Rolando Ramirez is assigned to the case. Or was it fate?" says the film's official description. " His journey will force him to question his own identity, and beliefs, on what it means to be a North American, and in turn, attempt to bring those who committed this crime to justice... some of whom are his former close friends."

Fontaine stars in the film, as does Brainard. It will be premiering in select theaters beginning Friday, October 16. For more information, check out Mi America's official website here.
