"I grew up on OLTL and I am happy to make one last cameo as the show prepares to end its run," Torpey said in a statement. "OLTL was a second family to me, and it will always hold a very special place in my life."
Torpey's upcoming engagement will mark the third character that she's played on One Life to Live. In addition to playing Jessica Buchanan from 1990 to 2003, Torpey also made a special appearance as Megan on OLTL in 2008 to mark the show's 40th anniversary.
A Pennsylvania native, Torpey has found success both in television and on the stage. In 1990, the same year she began playing Jessica on OLTL, Torpey made her Broadway debut in the revival of Cat on a Hot Tin Roof. Three years later, she returned to Broadway in Neil Simon's The Goodbye Girl.
Since leaving daytime, Torpey has appeared in a handful of movies, voiced the Greek goddess Athena in the God of War video game series, and guested in several primetime television series.
During her time in Llanview, Torpey received a 2000 Daytime Emmy nomination as Outstanding Younger Actress. Torpey also received six Young Artist Awards nominations.
Torpey currently lives in California with her husband and one-year-old son.
Torpey will first air on September 8, but ABC is keeping mum about exactly who Torpey will play.
