GH debuts new opening credits that change "episode by episode"

General Hospital has started the new year with new opening credits that vary day by day. The ABC soap's intro now includes longtime cast member Kin Shriner (Scott Baldwin).

General Hospital is getting a fresh start for 2019 -- and we mean that literally. The ABC soap opera debuted new opening credits during the week of January 7, and the recently developed intro is anything but ordinary.

The former GH opening, which debuted in 2009 for the ABC soap's 12,000th episode, featured shots of select Port Charles characters and couples from the show over the dark backdrop of the city. The new opening is brighter and zips along through images of the show's cast at a quicker pace before ending on a golden GH title, which remains laid over the backdrop of Port Charles.

When fans took to social media with posts about the soap's refreshed opening, ABC executive Nathan Varni commented that the intro clip will "change episode by episode."

As is the case when most big changes happen on a soap opera, viewer reaction has been mixed. While some are loving the refreshed look, others think it moves along at a dizzying speed. However, one positive thing it seems all GH fans can agree on is it's nice to see longtime cast member Kin Shriner (Scott Baldwin) back in the opening sequence after over a decade of being absent from the intro clip.
