Have mercy! Former Days of our Lives star Justin Gaston (ex-Ben Rogers) is taking on a role of epic proportions: Full House's Uncle Jesse, a role made famous by former General Hospital star John Stamos (ex-Blackie).
The 27-year-old actor has been cast as Jesse Katsopolis in Lifetime's special movie, The Unauthorized Full House Story, which is premiering just in time for the highly anticipated reboot of the popular sitcom, titled Fuller House.
"Finding someone as good looking as John Stamos to play John Stamos was a challenge," Lisa Hamilton-Daly, A+E Networks' VP, Original Movies, told People. "[Gaston] looks a lot like John and has his same charm and warmth."
Gaston, who once famously dated Miley Cyrus and now is the hubby of The Young and the Restless' Melissa Ordway (Abby Newman), will be joining toddlers Blaise and Kinslea Todd as Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen's Michelle Tanner, Shelby Armstrong as Candace Cameron's D.J. Tanner, Dakota Guppy as Jodie Sweetin's Stephanie Tanner, Justin Mader as Dave Coulier's Joey Gladstone, and Garrett Brawith as Bob Saget's Danny Tanner.
Though The Unauthorized Full House Story, which debuts Saturday, August 22, is happening amidst the Fuller House hype, Hamilton-Daly says the two projects are very different.
"It just demonstrates the huge interest in this show," she points out, adding that the Lifetime movie will focus on how the cast "ended up being a family," both on and off camera.
Gaston was the original portrayer of DAYS' Ben Weston, having played the character for a short time from February to May of 2014 before Robert Scott Wilson was cast in the role.
