Daytime alum Chrishell Stause (ex-Jordan Ridgeway, Days of our Lives; ex-Amanda Dillon, All My Children) spends most of her time these days helping people find their dream homes as the star of the reality real estate program Selling Sunset, but she is also passionate about helping abandoned dogs find their dream homes, too.
The beloved star has partnered with PETA for a new campaign in which she and her senior dog, Gracie, urge people to "give a dog in a shelter a dream home." But Stause's efforts to find loving homes for homeless canines isn't just connected to her TV job; the actress says her passion is also inspired by her own turbulent past.
"Coming from a background of dealing with homelessness, my heart understands," Stause says in her PETA video spot (below). "To be able to completely change a dog's life and give them a forever home has always sat with me and just been something that I'm really passionate about."
The actress also shares the story of Gracie's adoption in the video and explains to fans how her own experiences have deepened her empathy for dogs in shelters.
Around 70 million dogs and cats are homeless in the U.S. at any given time. An estimated ten percent of them end up in animal shelters, where many must eventually be euthanized for reasons including injury, illness, old age, lack of good homes, and emotional and psychological damage. As such, Stause urges fans to do right by dogs by adopting them from animal shelters and never buying them from breeders or pet shops, which exacerbates the homeless-animal overpopulation crisis.
In a fun bonus video, Stause puts her real-estate savvy to good use and takes Gracie on her very own house tour. Check out the cute video below and let us know what you think about the actress teaming with PETA in the Comments section at the end of the article.
