North Dakota native Josh Duhamel shot to daytime fame when he took on the role of All My Children's Leo du Pres back in 1999, and even though it's been many years since his Pine Valley days, he still proudly displays a piece of his soap opera life in his home.
The actor, who recently split from his wife Stacy Ann Ferguson (a.k.a. Fergie, of Black Eyed Peas fame) and had to buy his own Los Angeles home, says he's got quite a few special pieces from his various acting jobs, including an AMC item.
"I always try to collect something," he told Architectural Digest. "I have the old chalk slate from All My Children when I was first there, before they went to the electronic ones."
He doesn't specify if he got permission to swipe the slate from the ABC soap, but it's possible he didn't, as he admits he sometimes takes stuff without asking. "If I find something cool, I will usually ask them, but sometimes it's like, 'They are not going to miss this,'" he shares. "Like, for example, I did the movie When in Rome, and it was like this poker chip that was sort of prominent in the movie and I kept that. What else? I had a door from my office on Las Vegas. I actually have the '69 Camaro from Las Vegas that I drove around."
Duhamel is trying to get settled into his new Los Angeles home, where he lives when he's not at his cabin in Minnesota. And from the sound of it, both pads are quite comfy.
"Well, my cabin in Minnesota is really . . . Do you know who Terry Redlin is? Look up any Terry Redlin painting and it feels like that," he says with a laugh. "It's a tiny little place. It's not big, but it's right on the water, and it's tucked into all of these pine trees. It's, like, fifty-two acres of just open forest on a lake, and it's got this little chimney with smoke that comes up when you have a fire. It's this whole thing, but it's nothing fancy, believe me. It's cute, but nothing fancy. My place in L.A., I just got . . . I am about to close on a ranch-style one-level, four bedroom midcentury modern. I love midcentury modern. I don't like ultra modern and I don't like too country. I like it just sort of comfy."
He continues about his new home: "I just walked in and I felt relaxed. I felt like this was a place where I can come in and just land every day. It has this beautiful view. It's up on this hill, it's got a beautiful pool in the back, it's got enough yard to put a little chipping area, putting area in eventually. Great barbecue. It just feels relaxing, you know, and I have been unsettled now since February, so I am excited to just get some place and just have my stuff and just relax a little bit."
