Finn Wittrock out at All My Children

It's been just a little over a year since Finn Wittrock debuted as Damon Miller. In that time, he's found a new dad, a girlfriend, and a job -- but it appears the good times are over. Wittrock has opted not to renew his contract, and will exit in early 2011.

In a surprising uncasting decision, Soap Central has learned that All My Children and newcomer Finn Wittrock (Damon Miller) have parted ways. The Juilliard-trained performer will be off the All My Children canvas in early 2011.

Talk of Wittrock's sudden ouster first surfaced over the weekend. The actor subsequently confirmed his ouster to ABC Soaps In Depth, saying that he'd be exiting the show "in a few weeks."

Despite teasings that Damon might make a romantic play for Liza Colby, the magazine, citing a show source, also hints that AMC's head writers David Kreizman and Donna Swajeski have struggled to write story for Wittrock's alter ego -- and that the pair would much rather use their own character creation, Asher Pike.

Damon was introduced to the canvas in 2009 by AMC's previous head writer, Charles Pratt, Jr.

"He reached the end of his contract and decided that he didn't want to renew it," an All My Children spokesperson said in a statement.

Meanwhile, Wittrock and his AMC co-star Brittany Allen (Marissa Tasker) appear in the Mechanicals Theatre Group's limited engagement of The Laramie Project, a critically acclaimed play based on the 1998 hate crime killing of Matthew Shepard, a gay college student in Laramie, WY. The play is being staged at the Pico Playhouse in Los Angeles through Sunday, December 12. Wittrock debuted on All My Children in October 2009 in what was originally designed as a recurring role. In January 2010, the actor was given a contract with the show.
