It's been two years since that fateful day when a stack of pancakes felled one of All My Children's best-loved heroines. Though most fans really don't want to dwell on the day that Dixie died, some may have to brace themselves. All My Children is poised to have fans revisit that infamous day.
For reasons that remain unknown, All My Children's head writer, Charles Pratt, Jr., is bringing Alexander Cambias, Sr. back into the fold. The former Satin Slayer will reappear in the weeks ahead to promote a book he's written about the murders of several Pine Valley residents. In an odd twist, though, Daddy Cambias will deny having any part in the death of Dixie Martin. According to the elder Alex, Dixie was killed by a copycat killer.
Astute viewers will remember that Dixie was killed by accident. The poisoned pancakes that killed her were actually intended for Babe Carey. For several months now, fans on Soap Central's message boards have been wondering if David is hiding Dixie somewhere. Certainly there is a connection. David was infatuated with Dixie and he was Babe's father.
So what does this all mean? Why dredge up such an extremely unhappy moment in recent AMC history?
Word of a major casting announcement prompted many AMC fans to think that Cady McClain was returning to reprise her role as Dixie. Those hopes were dashed when McClain inked a deal to return to CBS's As the World Turns. The casting announcement, as it turned out, referred to the recasting of Liza Colby.
It seems unlikely that ABC would greenlight a Dixie recast, but nothing is ever really out of the realm of possibility anymore. Perhaps the groundwork is being laid for an eventual return of Dixie.
Is All My Children getting ready to launch another serial killer storyline? Why mention that there was a copycat killer out there if there's no plan of ever trying to find that killer?
All of the new twists lend themselves to the big question: Is Dixie Martin really dead? Viewers saw a ghostly Dixie on more than one occasion since Dixie was killed off. So she has to be dead, right? It's still way too soon to tell, but as soap fans know... anything is possible.
