Should The Young and the Restless recast the character of Adam Newman? His former portrayer, Justin Hartley, weighs in on the possibility.

Millions of fans are waiting for the day when The Young and the Restless decides to bring back the popular character of Adam Newman, and it seems his former portrayer, Justin Hartley, is one of them.

The popular actor, who currently stars on This Is Us, caught wind of the news that Y&R is possibly recasting the role and says he's highly in favor of someone else stepping into the shoes of the character he played from 2014 to 2016.

"They should. I believe they are doing it. I've heard they are. Good! I think that's great," he tells Soap Opera Digest. "They should. Adam is a great character."

As Soap Central previously reported, Y&R sent out a casting call in February for actors in their early 30's to early 40's to audition for the role of Jeremy, who is described as a "stunningly handsome" and "supremely confident" man who has "obsessive ambition" and is "willing to do whatever it takes to get what he wants." Fans of Adam Newman immediately began connecting the dots, pointing out that the description sounds a heck of a lot like a mini-Victor Newman -- especially considering the position is a contract role and is only open to actors who have "significant experience in film or television."

Time will tell whether or not Y&R is indeed recasting the role of Adam. But no matter what happens, it's unlikely that daytime fans will forget about Justin Hartley in the role. After all, he confesses that his soap opera roles are what fans recognize him from the most.

"Oh, my gosh, I still get, at least a few times a week, Fox [Crane] from Passions," he shares, adding that he also gets "a lot of Adam Newman -- a lot of Adam."
